American Regent, Inc. Animal Health has recalled two lots of Adequan Canine and two lots of Adequan im for horses due to the presence of glass fiber in the product, the FDA announced on Aug. 3, 2026.
The affected products include Adequan Canine with lot numbers 3369 and 25011 and Adequan im with lot numbers 24416 and 25265P. Both the canine and horse medications are injectable. The two lots of Adequan Canine are 100 mg/mL 5mL multi-dose vials while the Adequan im come in 500mg/5 mL single-dose vials.
Adequan Canine, an injectable medication, is typically prescribed for dogs suffering from traumatic or degenerate joint dysfunction while the horse medication is “used in the treatment of noninfectious degenerative or traumatic joint dysfunction and associated lameness in horses,” according to the FDA announcement.
Side effects that may occur, in those dogs or horses who have been injected with the affected medication, include abscesses, inflammation, irritation, pain at the injection site, and swelling.
Use of the recalled products should stop immediately. Pet parents, who have treated their pets with the medication and have seen an adverse reaction, should contact their vet.
